As outsiders, we have no actual view on how the prison system works. It is a closed environment for the public, which invokes many assumptions. With the book «De jongens» you will have a better understanding of what goes on in a prison like Esserheem. «De Jongens» is a publication about PI Esserheem in Veenhuizen. A narrative told through the eyes of the employees and the inmates themselves, supported by Sandra’s illustrations. The book contains real stories, of real people in real situations. It tells about the asymmetrical relationships between the prisoner and the guard, the work the employees do, and shows the reality of this small closed community.
